Choosing to sell your house is a big decision and you have to consider many things. Once you do go to market presenting your property in the best possible way is essential. Here is some tips on how to prepare your house to go to market:

  • Kerbside Appeal – trim, mow, mulch and weed the lawn! A spot of fertiliser and a good water won’t be missed either. Stand out the front of the property and put yourself in the potential buyer’s shoes. What may need touching up? Gutters, eaves, fence posts, glass?
  • Inside your home – Keep colours neutral. Clean all the mirrors and walls. A nice bright property is a lot more inviting then a dull one, so open up your windows/blinds.
  • Remove the clutter- Personal belongings should be put away to make your home space seem as big as possible, remove photos, ornaments, fridge magnets etc. The potential buyers should be able to imagine their own belongings in the space.
  • The little things – clean up after your pets and remove them from the property for any Home Opens. Fix leaky taps or light bulbs that aren’t working. Put out fresh linen/towels. Keep bins out of sight.
  • The extra touch (Home Opens) – light the fire/put the heater on if it’s cold and if it’s hot ensure the air con is running. Put a fresh coffee brew on. Open the windows. Fresh flowers can create a great aroma. It’s also best if you are not around during the inspection, this will make the buyer feel more comfortable.
