I Remember When with Milton Rendell

Do you remember when there used to be an afternoon paper and two Sunday papers? It seems a long time ago now.  There would also be a weekend sports paper on a Saturday afternoon as well. Hard to imagine now that these papers even existed as I was telling my daughters a while back. I remember when I caught the train in the mornings to school and then later on to work that the train was full of people reading the paper or a magazine. I’m not so sure you see too many today.

We still have the Sunday Times but there used to be the Sunday Independent as well in the seventies and the Weekend Sports which I sold as a paperboy going from pub to pub in Guildford selling a hundred of them every weekend. You probably remember the paper boys with our red Daily News hats riding around the place or standing on a corner screaming out “paper!”.

Today we want to know everything yesterday and I think maybe that has removed conversation in our society to a degree, as you only need to tap a screen to find out answers. I guess I am still an old paper boy at heart.
