I Remember When with Matt Pavlinovich

Who can remember the humble corner deli or general store where they lived or grew up?  I can remember as a kid going into the Middle Swan Liquor Store and eyeing which lollies I would buy to fill a little paper bag full for a few cents each.  My favourites were Strawberries and Creams.  People tell me that Midvale General Store had a snakepit for dancing similar to Scarborough Beach back in the 1960’s.  Can you remember that?

These delis and stores played their part in the fabric of our social history, they were the local hangout for the kids and a meeting place for the community.  Where you knew the store owner by a first name basis and customer service was superior.

While we have lost many corner delis and general stores over the years there are still many that exist within our local area including Greenmount, Hazelmere, Koongamia, Midland, Middle Swan and Midvale.  They still play their part in our community and need the support like all small businesses.

Do you have memories of your corner deli or store, we would love to hear them. Send them through to memories@realestateplus.com.au
